Outreach in slum areas to distribute sanitary pads and raise menstrual hygiene awareness

The video documents an outreach initiative by the Maika Sweet Home team aimed at distributing sanitary pads in slum areas to promote menstrual hygiene among women and girls. Despite being residents of a metropolitan city like Delhi, many women in these communities still use cloth during their menstrual periods due to lack of awareness, affordability issues, and social stigma associated with sanitary pads. The team, led by Maika and accompanied by several children, visits a slum to distribute sanitary pads and educate women on their proper usage and the health risks of using cloth repeatedly. They emphasize that menstruation is a natural biological process and should not be a source of shame. The outreach addresses the misconceptions and taboos surrounding menstruation and pads, aiming to transform mindsets and encourage healthier practices. The team commits to monthly visits to distribute pads and provide ongoing education to ensure sustained impact. The video stresses the serious health risks of using cloth during menstruation, such as infections and cancers, and urges women to embrace sanitary pads as a safer alternative. The initiative also calls for women to pledge to abandon cloth usage and to educate their children on menstrual hygiene.
